Island of Dreams

ISLAND OF DREAMS

SKWCZP (Pocket Editions 1), London 2026

There is magic in the landscape: just look inside yourself.

Island of Dreams is a new photobook by Adam Clitheroe that mines memories of the English landscape, half recalled in a fugue state between snatches of REM sleep. Documentary photography becomes a dream in which meanings shimmer and coalesce before the perspective shifts, logic slips away, and the sleep cycle moves on.

We see strange sculptures, number games and magical symbols secreted in the countryside. Nature’s defiant entropy is pitted against human intention. Glassy-eyed horses bear witness to sex, death and transcendence.

This is an original photographic monologue presented in an affordable pocket-size edition. As portable as a paperback novel and at a similar price point, it is the first in a new series of Pocket Editions books from publisher SKWCZP. It continues Clitheroe’s photographic journeys around the landscape, presented as the nexus of dreams and shared memory, and is a successor to his previous photobooks British Paranoia (SKWCZP, 2021) and A View From A Hill (SKWCZP, 2023).
