The landscapes in which we live help to shape our sense of identity. In turn, we adapt those landscapes to our own purposes. Bleak America explores the desiccated terrain of the Southwest USA, a land demarcated by bleakness and beauty, amnesia and nostalgia, faith and aggression: a singular landscape scarred by the contradictions of the people who settled it, and an analogue of the seemingly irreconcilable divisions in American society through the years of Trump and beyond.
